Override built in slider with a slider plugin

Hello:

I am using Business Point Plus as my WP Theme. The features of the themes built in slider did not meet my needs so I purchased a plugin to use instead (Slick Slider).

I tried adding the plugin shortcode to various pages then choosing those pages via Appearances/Customize/Featured Slide Options, but cannot get it to override the built in slider.

The only way I can get the plugin shortcodes to work is to add the shortcode to the theme template (\wp-content\themes\business-point-plus\template-parts\slide).

I added the shortcode to the beginning of the flie and now the sliders show up on every page, not just the homepage. I do not know PHP, so I am having trouble finding a place to insert the shortcode so it will just show up on the homepage. Could someone please give me some help?

Is altering the theme template the way to go, or is there a way to make the shortcode work using the WP Dashboard?
